George Maier

George graduated from the University of Oxford with a First Class MBiochem in Biochemistry, and is now completing a DPhil in Clinical Medicine at Oxford as a Clarendon Scholar. He teaches undergraduate Biochemistry students at Magdalen College, and achieved a Distinction in the International Biology Olympiad.

He has several years of experience teaching Biology, Biochemistry and Medicine at secondary-school, university and Oxbridge admissions level, and has worked extensively with students applying to Oxford and Cambridge for Biochemistry, Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Natural Sciences. Several of his students have gone on to receive offers from both universities. He also prepares students for the British and International Biology Olympiads.

Alongside subject teaching, George provides full Oxbridge and medical school admissions preparation, covering interviews, personal statements, the UCAT and the ESAT. He particularly enjoys helping students develop the scientific reasoning Oxford and Cambridge interviews demand, where they must apply what they know to unfamiliar problems rather than simply recall material.

His teaching is tailored closely to each student. He focuses on building a strong understanding of the underlying science, developing problem-solving skills, and helping students communicate their reasoning clearly — across Biology, Biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, genetics, physiology and biomedical science, from school level through to undergraduate Biochemistry at Oxford.
